3 Ways to Make Family Bible Time a Priority

ORGANIZED UNDER: B&H Kids // Faith & Family // Sponsored Post

The Importance of Family Bible Time

As parents, we hold the most significant position of influence in the life of our children. As Christian parents, the Bible must hold a place of significant prominence. For the Word of God to dwell in the hearts of our children, it must dwell in our hearts. For our spiritual lives to be alive, the living and active Word of God must grip us. George Mueller stated, “The vigor of our spiritual life will be in exact proportion to the place held by the Bible in our life and thoughts.” One of the most tangible ways to help our children love the Bible and help them see that we love the Bible is to spend time in the Bible together.

Establishing Family Bible Time

Here are three ways to make family Bible time happen.

1. Schedule It

We make time for things that we deem important. Studying the Bible with our kids should take precedent over sports, extracurricular activities, and other social commitments. Some families read the Scripture together every day. Others do so weekly. We, like others, fall somewhere in between. Our kids know when I climb in bed with them to read, it is time to read the Bible together. Set a time when you and your kids read and discuss God’s Word. Maybe it’s over breakfast on Thursday mornings. Maybe it’s at the dinner table on Tuesday nights. Find a rhythm.

2. Pray About It

Sometimes we forget to recognize the Holy Spirit’s work in our ability to understand and relate to the Bible. Pray for the Holy Spirit to pursue your family—to give each person a hearty desire to read and learn more about God’s story. He will honor your desires to know Him. Pray for the Lord to give you insight as you answer questions and for the Lord to soften the hearts of your kids toward Him.

3. Choose a Resource

It can be overwhelming to know where to start, and sometimes that is enough to derail our best intentions. However, there are hundreds of great resources for kids and families that have been designed and created to help you dig into the Bible.

A Helpful Resource

The It’s All About Jesus Bible Storybook is one of those great resources. It includes 100 Bible stories, discussion points, and even a free app that turns the book into a digital pop-up book to help keep your kids’ attention. The Parent Connection included at the end will also help equip you with ways to continue the conversations with your kids even after the devotional time is over.
